Summary
In your own private space in the IBM Cloud, IBM Cloud VPC combines the security of a private cloud with the scalability of a public cloud. Use Virtual Private Cloud to isolate and provision network segments on the IBM Cloud, where you can deploy and manage compute resources, storage and networking cloud resources. With Virtual Server for VPC, you can quickly provision instances with high network performance. When you provision an instance, you select a profile that matches the amount of memory and compute power that you need for the application that you plan to run on the instance. Instances are available on the x86 and s390x architectures. After you provision an instance, you control and manage those infrastructure resources For more information about IBM Cloud VPC, see the IBM Virtual Private Cloud documentation.
Features
Security
Your VPC is an isolated network, so your data and applications don't share space or mix with data of the cloud provider’s other customers. You have full control over how resources and workloads are accessed, and by whom.
Agility
You control the size of your virtual network and deploy cloud resources whenever your business needs them. You can scale these resources in real time.
Profiles
A profile is a combination of instance attributes, such as the number of vCPUs and the amount of RAM, that can be instantiated quickly to start a virtual server instance. In the IBM Cloud console, you can select a profile that best fits your needs. You can select from different families of profiles, such as the following examples:
- Balanced
- Memory
- Compute
- GPU
- Ultra high memory
Benefits
Full integration into the IBM Cloud
Integration with IBM Cloud Identity and Access Manager (IAM) and Resource Controller, support of resource groups and tagging.
REST APIs
Efficiently manage your infrastructure and resources that conform to standards such as HTTP, JSON, and XML.
Flexibility
Cloud infrastructure resources, including virtual servers, storage, and networking are deployed dynamically. Meaning that the VPC can easily adapt to changes in business needs. You control the size of your virtual network.
Notable use cases for IBM Cloud VPC
- Host cloud-native applications
- Host hybrid applications
- On-premises network cloud extension
