watsonx.data assistant - gen AI powered chat interface

IBM® watsonx.data assistant, a gen AI powered chat interface built with IBM watsonx™. It seamlessly provides information about watsonx.data using the product knowledge.

You can chat with the watsonx.data assistant to ask questions about IBM® watsonx.data. The assistant answers your queries about watsonx.data based on its knowledge on IBM product documentation. It helps to explore and learn about the product in an easier and faster way.

Enabling watsonx.data assistant

To start using watsonx.data assistant, the administrator must enable the feature.

  1. Log in to the watsonx.data instance.
  2. Go to Configurations.
  3. Click watsonx.data assistant. The watsonx.data assistant page opens.
  4. Toggle Enable watsonx.data assistant option to enable watsonx.data assistant.

Starting the watsonx.data assistant

To get started with the watsonx.data assistant:

  1. Log in to the watsonx.data instance.

  2. Click the AI icon on the top right of the watsonx.data home page to launch watsonx.data assistant.

  3. Type your questions and requests in the chat.

  4. Review the generated response.

  5. Provide feedback for the response and help improve the assistant. You have the following feedback options:

    • Good response : You can select this option if you are satisfied with the response.
    • Bad response : You can select this option if the response has to be improved. The chat prompts you for additional feedback.

What can the watsonx.data assistant do?

Ask watsonx.data assistant anything allows you to interact with your watsonx.data instance by using natural‑language questions and task‑oriented prompts. The assistant can interpret your intent and perform a growing set of read‑only actions that help you understand and explore your environment. The capabilities continue to expand, but generally include the ability to:

  • Explore metadata and datasets available in your watsonx.data instance
  • Retrieve information about the current instance, such as health or configuration details
  • Inspect existing access policies and security‑related definitions
  • List registered data sources and lakehouse objects
  • Answer questions about engines, schemas, catalogs, or workloads
  • Provide helpful summaries or contextual explanations about your environment

As we continue to enhance natural‑language support, the assistant will enable additional read‑only insights and administrative information retrieval to make it easier to understand and operate your watsonx.data instance.
