# Registering an engine
{: #reg_engine}

IBM® watsonx.data allows you to register engines that watsonx.data does not directly manage, provision, or control.
{: shortdesc}

You can register the following engines:

   * IBM Db2 Warehouse
   * IBM Netezza
   * Other

To register external engines, complete the following steps.

1. Log in to watsonx.data console.

2. From the navigation menu, select **Infrastructure manager**.

3. Click **Add component**, select one of the mentioned engines from the **Engines** section, and click Next.

4. In the **Add component** window, enter the details as mentioned based on the selected engine:

    * [IBM Db2 Warehouse](#DB2)
    * [IBM Netezza](#Netezza)
    * [Other](#other)

    * **IBM Db2 Warehouse**{: #DB2}

      For **IBM Db2 Warehouse**, configure the following details:

      | Field      | Description    |
      |--------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
      | Display name | Enter your compute engine name. |
      | Instance URL | Enter the console URL for **IBM Db2 Warehouse**. |
      | Complete watsonx.data configuration in **IBM Db2 Warehouse** | External engines require additional watsonx.data configuration. For more information, see [How to configure watsonx.data in IBM Db2 Warehouse](https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2woc?topic=tables-accessing-watsonxdata). |
      | Confirmation checkbox | Select the confirmation checkbox to confirm complete configuration. |

      |--------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
      | Display name | Enter your compute engine name. |
      | Instance URL | Enter the console URL for **IBM Netezza**. |
      | Complete watsonx.data configuration in **IBM Netezza** | External engines require additional watsonx.data configuration. For more information, see [How to configure watsonx.data in IBM Netezza](https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/netezza?topic=netezza-integratenps_watsonx.data&format=markdown). |
      | Confirmation checkbox | Select the confirmation checkbox to confirm complete configuration. |
