Glossary of HCX terms

This glossary provides definitions for the terms that are associated with the VMware HCX® service.

  • VMware® HCX - This is the HCX service that runs in the IBM Cloud®. The provisioning of the HCX service is automated by IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions.
  • HCX on-premises site - The on-premises environment that is running your existing VMware® deployment. In the context of migrations, this environment is often referred to as the source site.
  • HCX Cloud site - The VMware® environment that is running in IBM Cloud, where you want to extend your on-premises environment. In the context of migrations, this environment is often referred to as the target site.
  • HCX Manager virtual appliance - This is the management virtual machine for HCX, which is also referred to as HCX Manager.
  • HCX Cloud IP - The IP address of the HCX Manager virtual appliance, which you can find on the HCX service details page in the IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions console.
  • HCX Manager Admin console - The user interface for managing the HCX appliances for administrative purposes, such as starting and stopping services, and collecting support logs.
  • HCX Cloud console - The user interface for configuring the HCX cloud-side features, such as virtual data centers and disaster recovery.
