# Glossary of HCX terms

As of 17 July 2025, new automated installations of Red Hat&reg; OpenShift&reg; for VMware® are no longer available for new or existing deployments of VMware Cloud Foundation for Classic - Automated instances. You can still use or delete your existing Red Hat OpenShift for VMware automated installations until 16 July 2026. The service will no longer be available from 17 July 2026.

This glossary provides definitions for the terms that are associated with the VMware HCX™ service.

* **VMware HCX** - The HCX service that runs in the IBM Cloud&reg;. The provisioning of the HCX service is automated by IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions.
* **HCX on-premises site** - The on-premises environment that is running your existing VMware® deployment. In the context of migrations, this environment is often referred to as the source site.
* **HCX Cloud site** - The VMware® environment that is running in IBM Cloud, where you want to extend your on-premises environment. In the context of migrations, this environment is often referred to as the target site.
* **HCX Manager virtual appliance** - The management virtual machine for HCX, which is also referred to as HCX Manager.
* **HCX Cloud IP** - The IP address of the HCX Manager virtual appliance, which you can find on the HCX service details page in the IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions console.
* **HCX Manager Admin console** - The user interface for managing the HCX appliances for administrative purposes, such as starting and stopping services, and collecting support logs.
* **HCX Cloud console** - The user interface for configuring the HCX cloud-side features, such as virtual data centers and disaster recovery.
