# Configuring Usage Meter

As of 17 July 2025, new automated installations of Red Hat® OpenShift® for VMware® are no longer available for new or existing deployments of VMware Cloud Foundation for Classic - Automated instances. You can still use or delete your existing Red Hat OpenShift for VMware automated installations until 16 July 2026. The service will no longer be available from 17 July 2026.

After you deployed VMware vCloud Usage Meter, configure it in VMware vSphere® Web Client. Find out how to configure Usage Meter in the following video.

1. Log in to the VMware vCloud Usage Meter virtual machine (VM).
2. In a web browser, go to the IP address assigned to the Usage Meter VM that starts with `https://`
3. If a certificate warning appears, click **Advanced** and click **Proceed to IP (unsafe)**. This message is displayed due to self-signed certificates.
4. In the Usage Meter initialization window, under **Welcome**, select the **I agree to the terms and conditions** checkbox and click **Next**.
5. Under **Configure in the VCF Business Services console**, verify and save the **Usage Meter ID#** value.
6. Enter the **Access token** value of the Usage Meter that you registered in the IBM Cloud® for VMware Solutions console. For more information, see [Registering Usage Meter with IBM](https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/vmwaresolutions?topic=vmwaresolutions-usage_meter-register&format=markdown).
7. Select the **HTTP proxy** network connection type.
8. Enter information for **URL (http only)** and **Port**, then click **Next**.

   You can use the IBM-provided HTTP proxy server `proxy.vmware.cloud.ibm.com` on port number 3128.

   To use the IBM-provided HTTP proxy server, you must first enable [virtual routing and forwarding (VRF)](https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/account?topic=account-vrf-service-endpoint&interface=ui&format=markdown#vrf) and [service endpoints](https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/account?topic=account-vrf-service-endpoint&interface=ui&format=markdown#service-endpoint). If you cannot make these configuration changes, you can configure Usage Meter to connect to Broadcom directly over the public network or through your own proxy server.

You must also configure the time server by completing the following steps in the VMware vCloud Usage Meter appliance management console:

1. Go to `https://<Usage Meter IP>:5480` and log in to the VMware vCloud Usage Meter appliance management console by using the **usagemeter** user.
2. Click **Time** from the left navigation panel and under **Time synchronization**, click **Edit**.
3. In the **Edit time synchronization** window, enter the time server.

   You can use the IBM-provided time server `time.service.networklayer.com`.
