# Editing a portable storage description

You can view portable storage volumes (PSVs) in the IBM Cloud® console. The portable storage page displays the PSV's description, location, capacity, and device name to which the PSV is associated. You can update the description at any time. Update each PSV description to a unique identifier related to the use of the PSV.

## Before you begin
{: #before-you-begin-editing-portable-storage}

First, go to the storage menu and make sure that you have the correct account permissions to complete the task.

* Go to your console's storage menu.
* Make sure that you have any necessary account permissions and device access. Only the account owner, or a user with the `Manage users` Classic infrastructure permission, can adjust the permissions.

## Editing a portable storage description
{: #edit-a-portable-storage-description}

1. From the **Storage** menu, select **Block Storage**.
2. In the **Portable storage** section, locate the portable storage volume that you want to edit. Use the **Filter portable storage** tool to quickly locate a volume.
3. Click the **Description** section for the portable storage volume to open the description for edits.
4. Enter or revise the content in the **Description** field, as necessary.
5. Click anywhere in the row that contains the PSV to save the edited description.

## Next steps

After you edit the description for a PSV, it remains in its original location in the list until you exit the portable storage page. When you reopen the page, the PSV appears in a new location, based on the description's alphabetical order. If the PSV isn't located in this list after the screen restarts, hold the Ctrl key and click **Refresh** to clear the browser's cache and try again. You can change the description again at any time by repeating the previous steps.
