Offering discounts through private offers

As an independent software vendor (ISV), you can create private offers to provide specific clients with a discounted rate on any of your paid products in Partner Center. IBM can also initiate private offers on behalf of clients, which you must review and approve in Partner Center.

A private offer is an arrangement between you and a specific client. The offer provides that client access to one of your paid products at a discounted rate. The discounted rate is only available to the client that you specify.

To request a private offer from another ISV, contact IBM Cloud Sales.

Creating a private offer for a client

You can create a private offer for a product that is either published, or approved and waiting to be published in Partner Center. To create a private offer, complete the following steps:

  1. In the IBM Cloud console, click the Navigation Menu icon Navigation Menu icon > Partner Center > My products.
  2. Select the product for which you want to create a private offer, and click Private offers.
  3. Click Create.
  4. Enter the client's name and select the client's country. This information is required to identify the client.
  5. Set the duration for the private offer. You can specify Number of months or Date range for the duration.
  6. Enter the discount the client should receive with this private offer. For example, enter 15 to offer the client a 15% discount.
  7. Click Create.

Your private offer remains in a draft state until you submit it for approval.

Submitting a private offer for approval

When you're ready to submit the private offer for approval, complete the following steps:

  1. In the IBM Cloud console, click the Navigation Menu icon Navigation Menu icon > Partner Center > My products.
  2. Select the product associated with the private offer, click Private offers, then select the private offer to open the details page.
  3. From the Actions menu, select Submit for review.
  4. Confirm by selecting Submit for review, or select Cancel to continue editing the private offer.

After you submit the private offer, IBM reviews it. If changes are requested, you can approve the changes or request further revisions.

After the offer is approved, IBM applies the discount to the client's account. The client can then use the product from the IBM Cloud catalog at the discounted rate for the duration of the offer.

Deleting a private offer

You can delete a private offer before it is approved. Deleting a private offer cancels it and cannot be undone.

After a private offer is approved, you cannot delete it.

  1. In the IBM Cloud console, click the Navigation Menu icon Navigation Menu icon > Partner Center > My products and select the product associated with the private offer.
  2. Click Private offers.
  3. Click the Actions icon Actions icon for the private offer and select Delete.
  4. Confirm by clicking Delete, or click Cancel to keep the private offer.

Reviewing and approving private offers initiated by IBM

IBM can negotiate private offers on behalf of a client. In this arrangement, IBM acts as an intermediary and submits the offer for your approval in Partner Center. After you approve the offer, the client can access your product at the agreed discounted rate.

When IBM negotiates a private offer on behalf of a client, you receive a notification in Partner Center to review the offer.

To review and approve a private offer, complete the following steps:

  1. In the IBM Cloud console, click the Navigation Menu icon Navigation Menu icon > Partner Center > My products.
  2. Select the product associated with the private offer, and click Private offers.
  3. Find the offer with a Pending approval status and select the offer to view its details.
  4. Review the offer, including the proposed discount rate, the client name and country, and the duration.
  5. From the Actions menu, select Review offer.
  6. From the Approval decision menu, select Approve to accept the offer, or select Request changes and enter a comment describing what needs to change.
  7. Click Submit to confirm the approval decision.

After you approve the offer, IBM and the client receive confirmation. IBM applies the discount to the client's account. The client can then use the product from the IBM Cloud catalog at the discounted rate for the duration of the offer.

You must approve or decline private offers that IBM creates before the offer expiration date. Unapproved offers expire automatically.
