Before you begin

Before you begin:

• An IBM Cloud account.
• Understand how IBM Cloud IAM works.
• Understand how to create IBM Cloud API Key
• Understand how to create SSH Key.

IBM provides Terraform IBM Modules to jump start SAP deployment on IBM Power System Virtual Servers. Make sure to review the following of each module:

• Prerequisites, for example, IAM, SSH Keys, Schematics ID and so on
• Reference Architectures and Heat Maps
• Understand which components are included

Deploy Power workspace with a VPC landing zone

Per the recommended reference architecture, a VPC infrastructure should be deployed as a landing zone.

Deploy Power Virtual Server for SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA

The Terraform IBM Modules provide multiple variations to deploy SAP S4/HANA on IBM Power Systems Virtual Servers, with one HANA instance, 0 to N SAP Netweaver instances, with or without SAP installation and tuning.

Deploy Secure Automated Backup with Compass

As noted in the architecture decisions in prior sections, IBM Cloud offers multiple ways to backup SAP workloads. The recommendation is to use Secure Automated Backup with Compass which is a backup service with SAP certified tools for SAP workloads including HANA

• Enterprise connections from On-premise to IBM Cloud:

  Direct Link Connect: This deployment guide assumes the remote side of this connection is already integrated with the exchange provider’s network. If not, please contact the provider to establish this connection.

  • Review the list of Direct Link Connect providers and locations to select a provider.
  • Review partner-specific instructions.
  • Order Direct Link Connect to each Region.

  Alternative: Direct Link Dedicated connections can be ordered.

• To order more Client VPNs for VPC, use IBM Cloud Portal

• To order more Transit Gateways, including Global Transit Gateway, use IBM Cloud portal, or Terraform IBM Module
