L'interface de programmation SoftLayer permet aux développeurs et aux administrateurs système d'interagir directement avec le système de back end de SoftLayer.
Le site SoftLayer API est à l'origine de nombreuses fonctionnalités du portail client. Si une interaction est disponible dans le portail client, elle peut également être exécutée dans l'API. Puisque vous pouvez interagir à l'aide d'un programme avec toutes les portions de l'environnement SoftLayer au sein de l'API, vous pouvez utiliser l'API pour automatiser les tâches.
L'API SL est un système d'appel de procédure distante (RPC). Chaque appel implique l'envoi de données à un noeud final d'API et la réception de données structurées. Le format utilisé pour l'envoi et la réception de données à l'aide de SLAPI dépend de l'implémentation que vous avez choisie. SLAPI utilise actuellement SOAP, XML-RPC ou REST pour la transmission de données.

Définissez un nom d'utilisateur et un mot de passe api comme suit pour chaque exemple au cas où vous ne disposeriez pas d'un fichier ~/.softlayer configuré dans votre environnement.
