Renewing existing domains

Renewing existing domains

Effective 30 June 2023, IBM Cloud will no longer support the Domain Name Registration service, which is offered in partnership with Tucows Inc. For more information, see Domain Name Registration domain transfer.

When you register a new domain, it is reserved for use by the registrant for a pre-determined amount of time that is chosen at the time the domain is registered. When that time period expires, the domain becomes inactive and is available for purchase by any person or entity. To keep a registered domain active, it must be renewed before its expiration date.

Domains can be renewed one at a time, or multiple domains at a time. Follow these steps to renew a registration for an existing domain.

Renew a single domain

  1. From your browser, open the IBM Cloud® console and log in to your account.

  2. Select the Menu icon Menu icon, then click Classic Infrastructure.

  3. From the Classic Infrastructure menu, select Services > Domain Registration to open the Domains page.

  4. Choose the Renew tab.

  5. Select or type in the name of the domain that requires renewal from the Renew Domain list.

  6. Click Continue.

  7. Select the amount of time for which to renew the domain from the Registration Time list.

    The price for each time period is displayed next to the amount of time and is charged to the account when the new domain is renewed.

  8. Click Continue to renew the domain.

Renew multiple domains

  1. From your browser, open the IBM Cloud® console and log in to your account.

  2. Select the Menu icon Menu icon, then click Classic Infrastructure.

  3. From the Classic Infrastructure menu, select Services > Domain Registration to open the Domains page.

  4. Choose the Renew tab.

  5. Click the Renew Multiple Domains? link.

  6. In the window that appears, select or type in the name of the domain that requires renewal from the Multiple Domain Renewal list.

    • There are two fields by default. If you need to renew more than two domains, click Add Another to create as many entries as needed.
    • Click the Remove icon at the end of any entry to delete that domain from the renewal selection.

  7. Select the amount of time for which to renew each domain from the Registration Time list. This option appears only after a domain is selected.

  8. Click Continue to renew the domains, or click Cancel to end the action.

Next steps

Upon renewal of the domain, it is reserved for the amount of time selected. Repeat these steps when the domain requires renewal.
