Gen 2

Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 1 to Gen 2 migration is now generally available: Migration from Gen 1 (Classic) to Gen 2 (VPC) is now available for Databases for PostgreSQL. You can migrate by using the Migration Hub in the IBM Cloud console, Terraform, the API, or the CLI. Both read replica and backup-and-restore migration paths are available. For more information, see Migrating Databases for PostgreSQL from Gen 1 to Gen 2.

Single-node deployments (Beta) now available for Databases for PostgreSQL: Databases for PostgreSQL now supports single-node deployments (Beta) for select databases in select regions. Single-node deployments provision a single database member instead of the default two or three-member high-availability configuration and are intended for development, testing, and proof-of-concept workloads. Single-node deployments can be converted to a high-availability deployment without requiring data migration. For more information, see see Single-node deployments (Beta).
Customer-defined maintenance windows now available for Databases for PostgreSQL: You can now configure the days and start time for maintenance on your Databases for PostgreSQL deployment. Customer-defined maintenance windows allow you to schedule maintenance activities during times that align with your operational requirements while ensuring critical security, reliability, and platform updates are applied. Context-based restrictions (CBR) support now available: You can now use context-based restrictions (CBR) to restrict access to Databases for PostgreSQL resources based on network context, such as IP addresses, VPCs, and IBM Cloud® services. For more information, see Managing access with context-based restrictions.

Enhanced Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) experience in the provisioning UI: The provisioning experience now includes an updated encryption configuration component for customer-managed encryption keys through IBM® Key Protect for IBM Cloud®. This update provides a more consistent key management experience during deployment creation. Learn more about Key Protect integration or provision a new Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 2 deployment with customer-managed encryption enabled.

Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 2 is now available in all VPC multizone regions: You can now deploy Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 2 in all supported IBM Cloud® VPC multizone regions (MZRs). This release adds support for Toronto (ca-tor), Tokyo (jp-tok), Osaka (jp-osa), and Sao Paulo (br-sao). For more information, see Overview of Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 2 is now available in Dallas and London: Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 2 is now also available in Dallas (us-south) and London (eu-gb) in addition to Madrid (eu-es), Sydney (au-syd), Mumbai (in-mum), Chennai (in-che), and Montreal (ca-mon). Customer-configurable server parameters now available: IBM Cloud® Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 2 now supports 14 customer-configurable PostgreSQL server parameters. You can set parameters at provisioning time and update them on a running instance. The configurable parameters include connection limits, logging thresholds, memory allocation, WAL, and replication settings, and pgAudit classes. Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 2 is now available in Madrid and Sydney: Databases for PostgreSQL Gen 2 is now also available in Madrid (eu-es) and Sydney (au-syd) in addition to Mumbai (in-mum), Chennai (in-che) and Montreal (ca-mon). For more information, see Overview of Gen 1 and Gen 2.
