Understanding data portability for Global Search and Tagging
Data portability involves a set of tools and procedures that enable you to export metadata that is stored within the IBM Cloud Global Search and Tagging service. It includes procedures to export all tags that are associated with your resources.
Responsibilities
IBM Cloud services provide interfaces and instructions to guide you in copying and storing your service content, including the related configuration, in your selected location.
You are responsible for using exported data and configurations to enable data portability to other infrastructures, including:
- The planning and execution for setting up alternative infrastructure on different cloud providers or on-premises software that provide similar capabilities to the IBM services.
- The planning and execution for the porting of the required application code on the alternative infrastructure, including the adaptation of your application code, deployment automation, and other code.
- The conversion of the exported data and configuration to the format that's required by the alternative infrastructure and adapted applications.
Exporting data
The Global Search and Tagging service provides the mechanisms to export your content that's uploaded, stored, and processed when you use the service.
ibmcloud resources --output json | jq -r '["CRN","RESOURCE NAME", "TAGS", "ACCESS TAGS"], ["---","-------------","---","-----------"], (.items[] | [.crn, .name, (.tags | join(",")), (.access_tags | join(","))]) | @csv' > report.csv
Exported data formats
The Global Search and Tagging service supports the following data format and schema of the exported data, configuration, and application:
CSV file
This file contains 4 columns that indicate the CRN, the name, the user tags, and the access tags for each resource.
Data ownership
All exported data is classified as customer content. Apply the full customer ownership and licensing rights, as stated in the IBM Cloud Service Agreement.
