IBM Storage Scale allows you to deploy high-performance storage clusters that use IBM Storage Scale as storage solution on top of IBM Cloud VPC compute configuration. This offering uses open source Terraform-based automation to provision and configure IBM Cloud resources. With simple steps to define configuration properties and use automated deployment, you can build you own high performance storage cluster in minutes.
Before you begin
Create an SSH key
Create an SSH key in your IBM Cloud account. This is your SSH key that you will use to access the Scale cluster. For more information, click here.
IBM Storage Scale licenses
The offering uses BYOL(Bring your own licenses) for IBM Storage Scale. Make sure that you have enough IBM Storage Scale licenses for production use. Work with your business owners or software license management to confirm that you have sufficient licenses to deploy an IBM Storage Scale cluster.
NOTE: Failure to comply with licenses for production use of software is a violation of IBM International Program License Agreement. Learn more.
Required resources
Understand the cluster configuration
Review at the configuration properties on the Create tab and analyze what kind of compute nodes would be appropriate for the login node, the compute nodes and the storage nodes. How many static compute and storage nodes would be needed? Think about what kind of storage and how much data does your cluster need. Use the VPC pricing to understand the cost for your cluster before clicking Install.
Installing the software
Cluster configuration
Specify the values for the required properties on the Create tab and review the properties with default values. Update the values that you need for your specific cluster setup.
Software license
Review the license terms and conditions and if you agree, check the box.
Deploy the cluster
Click the Install button to deploy the storage cluster with IBM Storage Scale software.
Production configuration
Cluster configurations are specific to your requirements. You can choose to deploy multiple storage cluster instances for test or production environments. Adjust the configuration values for your specific needs, and install the storage cluster accordingly.
Upgrading to a new version
The solution does not support the upgrade feature.
Note: Attempting to use the feature may lead to irreversible changes, corruption, or data loss.
Uninstalling the software
- Go to the Menu > Schematics.
- Select your workspace name.
- Click Actions > Destroy resources. All resources in your workspace are deleted.
- Click Update.
- To delete your workspace, click Actions > Delete workspace.
